The definition of civil rights is the rights of a citizen to political and social freedom and equality. Generally, gays have none of these rights, which is why they participated in the movement itself. Through out history, our nation has discriminated people who are different than the average Caucasian heterosexual.
Often times, openly gay people have struggled in terms of occupations. In the minds of the offenses, to be gay is "unnatural". Also, the stereotyped homosexual is usually colorful, flamboyant or simply to be overly happy. That is why gays in the past and the present are commonly prohibited from living together and getting married. We all know that is is unusual to see powerful homosexual lawyers or any high profession like such. If you think about that, it is purely bias, and that is what brings it into the civil rights category. It is all about prejudgment.
