Ward E. Hunt was the judge during the case that convicted Susan B. Anthony for the crime of voting as a woman. At that time it was against the law. She was convicted of this crime in 1872 during the presidential election. Susan B. Anthony was trying to make a statement that would show that woman in the United States were fed up with the law. Hunt was a very discriminative man and was very intelligent too. He saw that Anthony was a very good public speaker. In an attempt to stop her persuading speeches to work he moved the case 28 miles form Rochester. In the trial he had persuaded the jury into what he thought was the right thing. This act was used in 22 cases of his ten years as a judge. Anthony of course lost the case and was guilty of the crime. Susan B. Anthony was forced to pay fines for $100 which she refused to pay.
