Creator of the Montgomery Bus Boycott
Edgar D. Nixon was born in Montgomery in 1899. He had only one year of formal schooling. He eventually became the leader of the local N.A.A.C.P. Nixon was in control of the Montgomery bus boycott. The movement was in action before parks arrest, but not publicly. The N.A.A.C.P needed someone who could make the common black, and white African American supporters people jump up. The arrest of Rosa Parks was perfect for the occasion. Just what was needed. He then, in 1955, organized the Montgomery Bus Boycott. King was appointed the leader by the local N.A.A.C.P. (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.)He passed away at age 87, on Feb. 25, 1987. Bibliography
