In 1824 the U.S. Army moved Cherokee and Choctaw tribes to Oklahoma reservations. A year later the federal government signed papers to trade land in the east for Native American land in the west. In 1831-1832, the Indian Removal Act was trying to be enforced on the Cherokee Tribe in Georgia which then led to a court case after the Cherokee Indians seceded from the U.S. and then made a court case that went to the supreme court. It was Cherokee Nation v. Georgia. In the supreme court, the Cherokee Nation won and came back to the U.S. and stayed in Georgia. By 1833, the Choctaw tribe completed their journey to their new reservation in the west, but by 1835, the Seminoles refused to move to the designated western territory. In turn, this began the Seven Year War. At the same time the Cherokee tribe agreed to leave their land. General Winfield Scott led them on the Trail of Tears. In 1851, the Fort Laramie treaty was signed between many tribes and the United States in hopes they could see each other as friends. However this failed because neither of the sides kept their agreement, the government kept on pushing back Native American land, and the Native Americans kept raiding U.S. towns. In 1854, Conquering Bear of the Lakota tribe was killed by troops from Fort Laramie. In 1864, Cheyenne Chief Black Kettle and 200 more were massacred by John M. Chivington. In 1866, Phillip Sheridan took command over the Army. In 1868, the Medicine Lodge Treaty was signed by the United States and many tribes restricting them to Oklahoma reserves. In 1874, George A. Custer found gold in Dakota, a land reserved for the Lakota tribe, making the Americans want to throw them out of their land. After that, in 1875 the Lakota War was started due to the breaking the Fort Laramie treaty by the Government. In 1876, the Battle Of Little Bighorn took place, this is also know as Custer's Last stand because this is where George A. Custer was killed. In 1877, Crazy Horse surrendered at Fort Robinson and killed a couple months later. Chief Joseph also surrendered after the Nez Perce War. In 1881, Sitting Bull surrendered to General Alfred Terry. In 1886, Geronimo surrendered at Skeleton Canyon and agreed to move his people to Florida. In 1890, the Battle Of The Wounded Knee took place, this was between the Sioux tribe and the Military in South Dakota, the Sioux was trying to get to Nebraska and the Military was trying to stop them from getting there. This is known as the last armed conflict of the Indian Wars. In 1970, Natives protested at Fort Lawton. And in 2008, a couple of tribes in California clashed with the police.
