Chief Joseph played a giant part in government use of force against the native americans. He was born on March 3, 1840 and lived until September 21, 1904. He was a great fighter and led his people (the Nez Perce) through many battles. He was known by his tribe as In-mut-too-yah-lat-lat (Thunder coming up over the land from the water). He was assigned as Chief of the Nez Perce in 1877, the same year as the Nez Perce war started. He was a friend of many other tribes and people. In the Nez Perce war he was a fearless leader. He fought fearlessly. He stood up for his tribe and helped everyone.he always did what he thought was best and never gave up unless it was the right thing to do. Like ending the Nez Perce war with his great speech "I will fight no more forever" He was a great person and had a huge impact in the government use of force.
